BHRT For Women
service
WHAT IS BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY (BHRT)?
Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) uses hormones that have the same chemical and molecular structure as hormones naturally produced by the human body. For women, treatment may include estradiol, progesterone and testosterone after an individualized medical evaluation.
- Purpose: BHRT is designed to relieve bothersome symptoms associated with hormonal changes during perimenopause, menopause, or surgical menopause.
- Treatment is based on your symptoms, medical history, health goals, risk factors, and laboratory testing when clinically appropriate.
- Treatment Options: Depending on your individual needs, hormone therapy may be provided through patches, injections, creams, and oral capsules.
- The goal is not simply to change a laboratory number. It is to create a medically appropriate plan that helps relieve symptoms, supports quality of life, and is monitored over time.
HORMONAL IMBALANCES IN WOMEN: ESTROGEN, PROGESTERONE & TESTOSTERONE
Hormones can fluctuate significantly during perimenopause and generally settle at lower levels after menopause. These changes affect every woman differently. Some women experience only mild changes, while others develop symptoms that interfere with sleep, relationships, work, sexual health, and overall quality of life.
- ESTROGEN - Estrogen helps regulate the menstrual cycle and supports bone, vaginal, and urinary-tract health. Fluctuating or declining estrogen may contribute to hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disruption, vaginal dryness, discomfort during sex, and urinary symptoms.
- PROGESTERONE - Progesterone helps regulate the menstrual cycle and balances estrogen's effect on the uterine lining. As ovulation becomes less frequent during perimenopause, progesterone production may become irregular or decline. For women who still have a uterus and use systemic estrogen, a progestogen is generally prescribed to protect the uterine lining.
- TESTOSTERONE Testosterone is an important hormone in women and an essential part of overall hormone health. As testosterone and other hormones change with age, some women may experience decreased sexual desire or arousal, fatigue, reduced energy or motivation, mood changes, decreased strength, or greater difficulty maintaining lean muscle.
